Vol. I. Norimbergae. Leonardus Schrag. 1827. Unfinished collected work; only first part of vol. 3 published. Vols. 1-2, dated 1825-1826, constitute the second issue ("Leipzig issue"), differing only in their title-page information from the same vols. of the original issue published in 1825 in Schmalkalden (HI 14763); also, a motto present on the verso of the title-page of vol. 1 is absent in the present issue. As TL-2 reports, the cancellantia title-pages for vols. 1-2 were printed together from one single partial sheet, to be cut lengthwise into 2 leaves, and hence the distribution of these 2 volumes con only have been effected in 1826. The date 1825 on the title-page of vol. 1 of the Leipzig issue is therefore incorrect. Vol. 2 consists of 2 text divisions, the same as in vol. 2 of the Schmalkalden issue. While the first division was printed in 1825 (even before vol. 1 was published, see preface p. III), no contemporary sources support the fact, reported by TL-2, that it was published in 1825. References with the date 1825 point to the Schmalkalden issue instead. Vols. 3-5 were published at Nürnberg and complete this issue (although there are quite a few mixed copies extant, usually consisting of vol. 1 of the first (Schmalkalden) issue and vols. 2-5 or the second (Leipzig and Nürnberg) issue). The title-page dates for these 3 volumes are: 1827 (vol. 3(1); 1830 (vol. 4); 1834 (vol. 5).

Reference / Citation: Pritzel (Ed. 2) 1215; Bradley Bibliogr. 1: 500; Merrill & Walker 55; TL-2 1: 825.
Notes: This is the third edition of vol. 1; it differs from the second edition: Lipsiae, 1821 (HI 24020), in its independent pagination and the title-page information (extended title, no place and date of publication). It is improbable, although not impossible, that the present text was produced from the same type-setting as the original article in Isis (Oken) [4](6): col. 801-984. 1819 (MLP 655) and its reprint in 1821 (HI 24020). References in the title are to: Banks, Joseph, 1743-1820, and to: Cook, James, 1728-1779. Date of publication is 1826 (not 1819 as reported by Merrill & Walker, nor 1821 as reported by Pritzel), according to an announcement in Intelligenzbl. Jenaischen Allg. Lit.-Zeitung 23(3): 32. 1826 [Jan.] (MLP 2745). For a fourth edition of vol. 1, designated as: Editio secunda, see: Vermischte botanische Schriften. Nürnberg. Vol. 3(1): I-XIV, 1-460. 1827 (HI 00774).
