The differences to the second issue of 1815 (HI 11327) are slight: The first four unnumbered pages, with 2 facing title-pages, without a vignette, replace pp. I-II; p. XII includes the explanation for the new plate IV; pp. 1457-1460 have been reset, and on p. 1460-1469 2 additional species of Tilia are treated. Also 4 plates are present, the new pl. IV being colored.

Title-page with a vignette, illustrating the demonstration of plants to sutdents of the forestry academny at Dreyssigacker, Thuringia; some copies (B, MH-HL) also with an additional cancelled title-page without a vignette. Also, two versions of the dedication (pp. II-IV) to Willdenow, Carl Ludwig, 1765-1812, are known; the second version (cancellans) identifies Willdenow as “Ritter des Preussischen Roten Adlerordens”. The 2 unnumbered pages, following p. 642 and giving announcements of books by the publisher, are mostly lacking in the copies seen, but are present in the copy at MH-HL. The table was originally printed as 2 conjugate and unnumbered leaves of gathering M and pasted to leaf M1 (p. 177). It presents a key to the Linnaean sexual system with its 24 classes. The copy at MH-HL includes also a different, but similar foldout table which is not part of a gathering and is inserted between pp. 76 and 77, because a printed note at the top refers this table to p. 76. This, however, is probably an error for p. 176, and then this table could be considered a cancellans for the original table, because it gives more information. On the other hand, the table may belong to a different work. The work was not published as a whole (see statement on the cancellandum title-page without vignette, preserved in the B and MH-HL copies), but in 2 parts instead (the copies at B and MH-HL are significantly bound in 2 volumes, and Bradley Bibliogr. also cites 2 vols.). The present edition has considerably more text than another 4th edition, forming part of the book series: Die Forst- und Jagdwissenschaft nach allen ihren Theilen … and published under a slightly different title, also at Gotha, 1821 (HI 21475). No information is available which or the two editions was published earlier, or whether they were published concurrently. The copy at JE lacks the vignette on title-page; however, the printed text is identical with that on the title-page of the copy at HBL where the vignette is present.
